ABOUT ME

I’m fabulously talented, hugely cool, and stunningly beautiful. I’m dexterous at juggling the hours of my day so that email gets answered, art assignments sent off, lessons planned, house kept spotless, gourmet meals dished out for a grateful family, and countless hours devoted to the care and nurture of two angelic children. I’ve drawn every day of my life since I could grasp a pencil in my chubby little fingers. My ambitions include touring the cafés of Europe and every square inch of Disneyworld, writing and illustrating a best-selling children’s nonfiction series, and creating a prairie oasis in my back yard.

Oops… wrong bio…

I think you can tell a lot about an artist from their work. I love to draw characters in playful situations, whether it’s kids for an educational book or Furries in the park. Beyond the pictures, though, here’s a bit about me:

I’m a self-taught artist, and I’ve been drawing since I was very small. Professionally, I’ve been self-employed as a freelance artist since 2001, keeping busy with children’s illustration and commissions. My first book for children is currently looking for a publisher. I also have my teaching degree, and I love working with children, so I teach kids cartooning classes and oversee the children’s ministry at my church.

Most of my artwork is coloured with Prismacolor markers or Photoshop. The single greatest influence in my artwork has been Wendy Pini’s ElfQuest (which also brought me into contact with my husband Michael!). I think it’s rather fitting that I bought my first EQ graphic novel with my winnings from a colouring contest at the age of 12. My favourite thing to draw as a small kid was always cartoon animal people, so it’s great that I get to do so much of it now.

I live in Calgary, Alberta with my husband Michael and our sons Peter and Cian. I love outings to our local Chapters/Starbucks, Canadian history, going to movies, and playing with my little boys. I haven't been to Europe or Disneyworld yet, and books are on hold, but we did create a wonderful backyard last summer. And the kids, while often driving me to the brink of sanity, are pretty darn cute.
